What are Carbohydrates? Carbohydrates (carbs) are the body's prime energy source. They help in the proper function of the brain as well as the body's muscles by transforming sugar into the energy your body truly needs. There are two types of carbohydrates: the simple and the complex carbohydrates.What is the Difference between the Two?
Simple carbohydrates or the monosaccharide’s are made up of only one kind of sugar. It could either be fructose (fruit sugar), glucose (corn sugar), sucrose (table sugar), lactose, and maltose. This is the type of carbohydrate that is quickly turned into glucose after consumption, so the bloodstream can absorb it and transport it all over the body. Because of its fast transformation, its effect is a sudden boost of energy to your body.
On the other hand, complex carbohydrates or polysaccharides are composed of different types of sugar. These carbohydrates normally take slower digestion that also affects the glucose transformation. As such, the body's energy lasts longer unlike that of simple carbohydrates.
Many people traditionally use a mix of dextrose and maltodextrin for post workout nutrition to replenish muscle glycogen. Waxy Maize has a much higher molecular weight and a much lower osmolarity (concentration of active ingredients) rate compared to dextrose or maltodextrin, so this means that WMS bypasses the stomach, is absorbed by the intestines and is immediately assimilated. It has a clearance rate of almost double that of dextrose and maltodextrin.
Waxy Maize has the ability to replenish the body’s glycogen stores much faster than a mix of maltodextrin or dextrose. This is accomplished by its ability to pass through the stomach rapidly and get to the intestines for immediate absorption. Waxy Maize’s ability to shuttle all these nutrients as well as carbohydrates gives the body an immediate "pump" users can physically feel in their muscles post workout.
Dextrose and maltodextrin can often cause water retention and bloating in some users. Whereas Waxy Maize does not, therefore making it an ideal carbohydrate source pre contest and throughout contest preparation for the purposes of glycogen replenishment. Many dieters may also choose to use Waxy Maize as their carb of choice as it is sugar free and an ideal source of a long chain complex carbohydrate.
